Business Case Development regarding the Operation of the Cyclotron Unit in KSUMC
King Saud University Medical City (KSUMC) is one of the top healthcare providers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), particularly for advanced imaging and treatment services. The medical city incorporated a cancer center which possessed a non-operational radiopharmaceutical production unit (cyclotron) since 2015 and Global Isotopes Group (GIG) intended to operate this unit via a public private partnership (PPP) model.
In order to assess the feasibility of such partnership, Enera conducted a market research to assess the demand from all countries in the region and evaluated various radiopharmaceutical providers in GCC countries. Furthermore, Enera designed business models for GIG’s potential partnership with the KSUMC, operating the supply chain of radiopharmaceuticals, and sub-contracting relevant operations to third parties.

The operation of the cyclotron via a PPP model was assessed to be profitable for both GIG and the KSUMC. The business models were accepted in principle, however, the partnership contract has not been signed yet.
