Economic Vision 2030 of Bahrain intends to diversify the economy by developing various sectors and reducing dependency on oil & gas industry. Accordingly, the government recently initiated reforms to increase private sector’s contribution to healthcare provision. The new insurance scheme (SEHATI) within the scope of the National Health Plan 2025, coupled with growing healthcare needs and limited capacity of public hospitals, will increase the demand for private services. However, for international providers and investors, there has been a lack of sufficient knowledge on existing gaps and specific requirements in the local market.
The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) partnered with the Bahrain Economic Development Board to conduct a market study and Enera was contracted for this purpose. The project aimed to identify the most lucrative opportunity areas in the healthcare sector, determine risks and challenges, attract and guide reputable healthcare providers and investors from the UK, and support the government’s efforts to enhance the sustainability of Bahrain’s health system.
The project involved delivery of the following outputs through analysis of primary and secondary data:
Kingdom of Bahrain
Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office
–
Bahrain Economic Development Board
2022-2023
The deliverables of this project were found useful by the FCDO, and the study was considered for replication in other markets. Selected outputs of the project will be shared with interested investors and providers from the UK to help them better understand key opportunity areas that suit their capabilities, and develop strategies for entering or expanding in the healthcare market of Bahrain.
