Genetic blood disorders are relatively common in the Middle East region. Therefore, governments, healthcare providers and NGOs strive to improve both prevention and treatment of these diseases. Cutting edge research & development in the pharmaceutical sector has recently been a promising driver of change towards better outcomes for patients with inherited blood disorders.
Kx Advisors, an independent market research agency, was contracted by a prominent pharmaceutical company to conduct market research studies globally with the aim of delivering a better understanding of the landscape for genetic blood disorders treatment. As a subcontractor of Kx Advisors, Enera undertook primary research in four GCC countries, namely Kuwait, UAE, KSA and Oman.
In the beginning of the project, we reviewed the screeners, interview guides and surveys prepared by the client and provided technical feedback by building on our extensive experience in the region. In the next stage, we identified key treatment centers in each country, determined appropriate sample sizes and recruited participants who consisted of healthcare professionals and leadership of selected hospitals. Finally, we conducted 24 in-depth qualitative interviews and 20 quantitative surveys, and extracted key insights from the collected data, such as existing patient journeys, treatment paradigms, referral mechanisms, awareness levels of stakeholders, capacities of key treatment centers, and potential knowledge dissemination & collaboration opportunities.

We succeeded to engage with several hard-to-reach stakeholders in the niche field of genetic blood disorders in this project. Hence, our primary research generated a rich and valuable set of information, which has helped the client to formulate better decisions for their market expansion in Middle East. Furthermore, the interactive discussions we carried out during the interviews enhanced the knowledge base of healthcare professionals in the region, and led to positive feedback from these potential end users.
